LOVING LUCY '98

will be held
July 10, 11, 12, 1998

at the
Burbank Airport Hilton Hotel
Burbank, California

We Love Lucy is pleased to announce the third annual convention of Lucille Ball fans and collectors. Loving Lucy '98 is a weekend designed to pay tribute to television's most beloved comedienne and many of the folks who worked with her. "Top Hats and Baggy Pants" is this year's theme — and, indeed, Lucille Ball felt at home in both. She could dance in top hat and tuxedo one minute and take a pie in the face the next. She was champagne and soda pop, caviar and peanuts — often in the very same show. This year's agenda includes something for everyone: film clips, full screenings, celebrity panel discussions, merchandise, an auction, a banquet (with dinner show and after-dinner dancing), and special displays of rare Lucy artwork and artifacts.

At previous conventions, attendees have requested information on how to visit various locations in the Hollywood area that pertain to "the Lucy legend." This year, we are offering the 1st ever Lucy Bus Tours. Yes, on Friday morning and again Friday afternoon, two separate tours will be offered, one going into the Hollywood area, passing various studio locations, stars on the Walk of Fame, Grauman's Chinese Theatre, etc. A second tour will go into Beverly Hills, circle Lucy's Roxbury Drive home, point out other homes of the rich and famous, and show where many of the famous nightclubs like Ciro's and the Mocambo once stood on Sunset Boulevard. Both tours will be fully guided - with Suzanne LaRusch scheduled to host the Beverly Hills tour and KABC-TV host Mark Towner the Hollywood jaunt.

While our weekend honors Lucy's entire career, on Sunday afternoon we will focus special attention on My Favorite Husband, Lucy's radio show that will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this summer. Husband established many of the styles and traditions that became the framework for I Love Lucy - and Gregg Oppenheimer in effect salutes both the radio and the TV shows by recreating two of the radio segments with an all-star cast. Actress/impressionist Suzanne LaRusch will voice Lucy's role of Liz Cooper - with other roles filled by voices (and faces) familiar to Lucy fans everywhere. Joining the fun will be (among others) Roz and Marilyn Borden, Larry Dobkin, Sandra Gould, Bob LeMond, Tyler McVey, Shirley Mitchell, Elliott Reid, Doris Singleton and Janet Waldo. All ticket proceeds from this special event will go to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Please see separate page for more information.

Our Friday evening film program will again be presented at the beautiful Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre at the Academy of TV Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood. This year's agenda will include a special tribute to Lucy's long-time friend and co-star Mary Jane Croft. You will not want to miss this very special evening.

On Saturday once again we will offer two panel discussions with people who worked with Lucy (on both sides of the camera). Joining us this year are Herb Browar and Irma Kusely, who will chat with Bob Carroll, Jr., Madelyn Pugh Davis. Dann Cahn, Maury Thompson, and William Asher about "Putting It Together" - the early days of I Love Lucy. Last year we witnessed an emotional reunion of The Lucy Show's Jimmy Garrett and Ralph Hart. This year, their co-star Candy Moore will join them (in their first appearance together in 33 years!) for a discussion that will also include producer Tommy Thompson and actor Keith Andes (among others). Andes will share memories of working with Lucy not only on The Lucy Show. but on Broadway in "Wildcat!" as well.

Bargain hunters will want to check out our auction items again this year. Included in the inventory to be sold arc authentic I Love Lucy artifacts (some of them autographed!) and a wide assortment of Lucy merchandise.

For this year's banquet, we will turn the hotel ballroom into The Top Hat Club, reminiscent of a 1940s nightspot, complete with entertainment provided by Johnny Crawford and His Dance Orchestra. Joining in the floorshow this year will be Roz and Marilyn Borden, Suzanne LaRusch, Brenda Cox, Alberto Stevans, Mark Towner, and...(well, we have to keep a few things as surprises!). Johnny and his orchestra will stay with us after the formal floor show and provide a full evening of music for your listening and dancing enjoyment.

Our vendor hall will again be packed with tables of Lucy-related merchandise for sale. On tap this year will be everything from classic "old stuff" (like movie posters, magazines, comic books, etc.) to new things (like the plates, dolls, T-shirts, etc.) Literally something for every taste and pocketbook.

Loving Lucy '98 promises to be three days of Lucy fun and excitement. We look forward to seeing you there!
