REPEAT: March 16, 1953 - CBS Television Network
OAD: October 15, 1951 - CBS Television Network
NEW FOOTAGE: This 1953 repeat telecast begins with Ricky and Fred watching the fights on the Ricardos' television set. There's only a minute or two left to the bout when Ethel emerges from the bedroom where she's been babysitting while Lucy's out. She switches the channel on the TV set and says there is a program coming on that she wants to see. Ricky and Fred convince her to watch the show downstairs on her own set -- they will babysit -- but when they switch the TV back to the fights, they discover it is already over. Ricky says that next time they will go and see the fights live at the arena. Fred reminds him of how hard it is for them to talk their wives into letting them go to the fights...
At this point, we flashback to ("I Love Lucy" Episode #1) when the Mertzes were about to celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary. Ethel wants to spend the evening in a nightclub. Fred, on the otherhand, would like to go to the fights. Naturally, Lucy sides with Ethel, and Ricky agrees with Fred. The verbal battle ends in a standoff, with Lucy announcing that she and Ethel will be celebrating the Mertz anniveresary in a nightclub -- even if they have to find dates to do it.
In the new opening scene, the voice of the female announcer on the program Ethel wants to see was provided by... Vivian Vance!
Notice how the Ricardos' couch was raised up on blocks to minimalize camera movements when Lucy (disguised as a hillbilly) "rassles" with Ricky...
