PREMISE: Lucy and Ethel are frustrated because their husbands seem to be spending all of their free time in front of the TV set -- watching the fights. They decide extreme measures are called for -- and attempt to cut the antenna wires on the roof of the Mertz apartment building. Too bad a policeman spots them and hauls them down to headquarters for questionning.
GUEST CAST: Larry Dobkin (cashier); Allen Jenkins (policeman); Frank Nelson (desk sergeant)
"Ricky and Fred are TV Fans" was also one of the first episodes of Lucy to get the principals out of the Mertz apartment building and into their New York neighborhood.
By the spring of 1953, television had clearly delivered a knock-out punch to its sister medium, network radio... Less than one-half of 1 percent of the nation had had TV in 1948; by April of 1953 more than one-third of all US homes owned a receiver. Historians now credit the popularity of programs like Milton Berle's Texico Star Theatre and I Love Lucy -- the Ricardo pregnancy story arc in particular -- with driving the sales of many of those sets. Lucy and Desi also helped sell televisions by appearing in General Electric Company's print-ads for their new "Black Daylite" Ultravision sets.
