I LOVE LUCY: 50th Anniversary Special

The following was posted 11/14/01:

From John Behrens:

The show had a very enjoyable and good approach, I thought... My only quibble with the show was the editing - rather, more like a compression - of the Vitameatavegamin scene. It should have been run in its full, unedited version, if only to allow her pacing, artistry, subtlety, timing, etc., to speak for itself -- and to illustrate and underscore once again what all the screaming has been about for the past fifty years. Perhaps the thinking was that, since people today can recite that scene themselves - and in their sleep, at that - then the impact of the scene wouldn't suffer if they tightened it a little. I agree - in theory. But it was the climax of the show. If they had cut a few of the celebrity comments, they could've run "Scene Number One" in its entirety -- and let the lady "speak" -- as clearly as possible -- for herself.
