COLUMBIA HOUSE DVDs: Disc #1 Production Problems

The following was e-mailed on 11/07/02:

From Charles Wild:

I was wondering if I am the only one to get the run-around from Columbia House regarding their DVDs?

While I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the collection (I now have the first 4 volumes), the first volume (Cuban Pals) is defective in that it only contains about 4 minutes of the radio show "Selling Dresses." The audio simply stops, leaving you with the still video. I have made numerous attempts to get a corrected DVD (I have had 3 now!) and am still in the process of waiting to hear back from Columbia House.

I cannot believe I am the only one with this problem -- but they make it seem that way. They tell me that that is the only portion available of the program (not true). Any words of wisdom/help is appreciated. Thanks...

Charles -- It sounds like your disc has "a hitch in its git-along" -- and, in truth, it does! You are quite correct in saying there is a defect in the disc. And no, you are not the only one to experience this problem. As you suggest, the entire first pressing of this disc was flawed.

Just so you know: the complete radio soundtrack is on your disc... When it stalls, all you have to do is press "play" again, and the playback will continue... Unfortunately, it will stall again in about five minutes... It stalls about five or six times in the course of the half-hour.

Columbia House has acknowledged the problem, and has remastered the entire first disc. It has not only corrected the radio-show situation, but has improved the picture quality on at least one of the TV episodes. The revised discs should be available for shipment by November 22. So wait a couple of weeks... then contact the Customer Service people you normally speak to, and tell them you are returning a flawed Disc #1, and that you want it replaced. How can you know if you are receiving one of the corrected discs? The I Love Lucy title in the heart on the cover of the DVD package will be in quotations!

Good luck! I hope this helps!
