Happy Anniversary, Lucy & Ricky...
Yes, it is time once again to tip our hats to Lucy and Ricky -- and Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz -- as "I Love Lucy" passes yet another milestone, it's 51st television anniversary! Perhaps the most successful situation-comedy of all time, "Lucy" premiered on the CBS Television Network October 15, 1951. In production only six years (nine if you count the 60-minute specials), the show has never been off the air.
Even more impressive, the wacky redhead and her dashing Cuban husband were in the news almost as much this past year as they were 50 years ago when their situation-comedy first won a place in our hearts. Their series' year-long "50th Anniversary Celebration" resulted not only in a top-rated Emmy-nominated TV special, but in a new berth on TV Land cable network, a traveling exhibit, a reinvigorated Lucy-Desi Museum and an avalanche of Lucy-inspired collectibles.
Happy 51 Years, dear people ... and here's to 51 more!
