No Place Like Home for the Holidays...
For years the Carmichael family spent Christmas with Lucy's mother in Jamestown, and the Bagleys traveled to Philadelphia to spend the holiday with Viv's uncle. This year, Lucy and Viv decide to stay in Danfield and celebrate Christmas together. Big mistake! One family normally serves turkey for dinner, the other wants goose... One has always had a green tree, the other a white one... One family traditionally opens gifts on Christmas Eve, the other on Christmas morning. It seems that the two families cannot agree on anything -- until carolers arrive and remind them what Christmas is really about.
"Together for Christmas," episode #13 of The Lucy Show first aired on CBS Television Network 40 years ago this week, on December 24, 1962. (Editorial aside: in those days, networks presented first-run programming throughout the holiday season -- unlike today, when Christmas shows run in early December, and nothing but reruns during the last half of the month. Ah-h-h-h, progress!)
