Thirty five years ago this week, on Monday, September 23, 1968, CBS launched Lucille Ball's third weekly television series, Here's Lucy, in which the redhead portrayed Lucy Carter, working mother. Co-starring with her were her two real-life children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz, Jr.
Here's Lucy continued Lucille's on-screen "partnership" with character actor Gale Gordon, who now portrayed Lucy's long-suffering brother-in-law, Harrison Otis Carter (aka "Uncle Harry"). Mary Jane Croft, who had made regular appearances on both I Love Lucy and The Lucy Show, appeared in many episodes as Lucy's girl friend, Mary Jane Lewis.
Here's Lucy ran for six seasons on CBS, did a tour of duty as a rerun-strip on CBS daytime in 1977, and went into syndication in 1981.
Now, as the show celebrates its "35th Anniversary," a new DVD boxed set ("The Best of...") is in preparation for release during 1st Quarter, 2004.
Happy Anniversary to the Carter Family!
