Jamestown Celebrates Lucy
Lucy's Birthday will also be celebrated this weekend in the lady's hometown -- Jamestown, NY. Sponsored by the Lucy-Desi Center there, the weekend includes a wide variety of activities -- everything from discussions, to screenings, to birthday cake "bake-offs." Saturday evening's extra-special event is a Fashion Show, in which outfits from Lucille Ball's personal and professional wardrobes will be showcased.
I Love Lucy writer Bob Schiller and lyricist Larry Orenstein will be guests on honor for a Saturday-morning seminar, and Lucy's longtime employee, Frank Gorey, will take center stage for a seminar on Sunday.
The year 2004 marks the 30th anniversary of the film "Mame" and the 50th anniversary of "The Long, Long Trailer." "Mame" will be screened on Sunday afternoon, after a short discussion about the film by Lucy's lontime secretary, Wanda Clark. "Trailer" will be screened on Friday night -- and a replica of the trailer used in the film will be on display the entire weekend.
The three-day festival runs Friday noon through Sunday afternoon.
