Still in Love with Lucy

Dear Fellow Lucy Fans,

Covering Lucy...

Next week's TV Guide (June 15-21) features a cover-story salute to their own "50 Greatest Covers." If it sounds like a bit of self-aggrandizement, it is... But we cannot complain too loudly, if only because they have included not one, but three Lucille Ball covers among their Top 50. The very first one heralding Lucy's Baby leads off the list, and the 1962 Philippe Halsman "jump" cover is there, too...

In between is one of our all time favorites, the 1954 cover which included a Lucy portrait framed by a Lucy silhouette. They just don't make 'em like that anymore!

Desilu Studio Memorabilia Up for Auction

Fans who collect "Desilu ephemera" as well as Lucy items may want to check out an upcoming auction being held June 27th by Profiles in History. The auction is comprised mostly of Star Trek-related items from the collection of Desilu/Paramount staffer Robert H. Justman, and a few 16mm films from the collection of Herbert F. Solow, Desilu's head of production, 1964-69. Being auctioned are a large array of costumes, props and set pieces, plus a mountain of paper items, including scripts, production notes, letters, internal studio memos, etc., many bearing the original Desilu Productions letterhead.) The films include the 1966 pilots to both Star Trek and Mission: Impossible.

More Collecticritters are Coming...

Our friends at "Collecticritters" (the stuffed-bear people) are working on two new Lucy-related bears that will be released in late July. The first is inspired by I Love Lucy Episode #59, "The Indian Show." You've probably already guessed: it will be a "Mama Indian Bear" with a papoose strapped to her back.

A second bear salutes Lucy Episode #60, "Lucy's Last Birthday." It is a white bear that has been dressed for a birthday party... Now all we need is a matching Cuban bear to sing a certain song...

Desilu Theme Music on the Radio

Last month's "We Love Lucy on the Radio" internet show was so successful that Ron Paul and Stuart Shostak are presenting another special broadcast this coming Saturday evening, June 15. The program will be an "All TV Theme Show," and include big band arrangements of classic TV shows from the 1950s and '60s. Because both Paul and Shostak are huge Lucy fans, you can count on hearing some of the redhead's most famous themes... There may also be a vocal or two by a certain Cuban we all know and love.

The program will originate from station KAAT, in Fresno, California, starting at 8PM/Pacific Time (11PM/Eastern). As with the last radio show, we will provide a direct internet link from our Lucyfan Media Center.

Have a great week everybody!
