Dear Fellow Lucyfans:
Bill Asher to Be Honored By TV Academy
I Love Lucy-director Bill Asher will be honored this coming weekend (Sunday, April 15) by the Pacific Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, for his 50 years of service to the TV industry.
Bill will be inducted into the Academy's Gold Circle. Other inductees include Kaye Ballard (co-star of Desi Arnaz's The Mothers-in-Law; marionette designer Velma Dawson; and, in memoriam, writer-producer Sidney Sheldon. The ceremonies will be held in Rancho Mirage, California.
Asher, of course, not only directed 3 1/2 seasons of I Love Lucy, but produced the 1960s comedy series, Bewitched, starring his second wife, Elizabeth Montgomery. Bill also directed episodes of Our Miss Brooks, Make Room for Daddy, The Dinah Shore Show, The Thin Man, The Paul Lynde Show, Alice, -- and dozens of other series -- and both wrote and directed most of the Annette-and-Frankie Avalon "Beach Party" movies of the mid-1960s.
"The Untouchables" Arrives on DVD Tomorrow
Desilu Productions' second most-successful series of the 1950s -- The Untouchables, starring Robert Stack as federal agent Eliot Ness -- arrives on DVD home video tomorrow, April 10.
Included in this first release, subtitled "Season One, Part One," are the first 14 episodes of the crime series -- plus "The Scarface Mob," the theatrical version of the original two-part "Untouchables" presentation on Desilu Playhouse. The original introductions to the latter by Desi Arnaz and narrator Walter Winchell are also included.
If you are a fan of classic television -- or of "all things Desilu" -- this package is for you!

Jamestown Unveils Plans for May Festival
Ric Wyman, Executive Director of the Lucy-Desi Center in Jamestown, New York, has announced plans for this year's "Lucy-Desi Days" celebration, to be held May 25-27 (Memorial Day Weekend).
Among the celebrities scheduled to appear are Lucie Arnaz (appearing in two events), Vivian Vance's sister Lou Ann Graham (also appearing in two events), Lucille Ball's sister Cleo Smith, former child-actors David Stollery and Sammy Ogg (who played the Hudson Twins in the "Amateur Hour" segment of I Love Lucy, and film editor Dann Cahn.
Lucie is scheduled to host another of the "Legends of Laughter" seminars, in which a panel -- and the audience -- discuss the importance of laughter in our lives. A similar seminar held last month in Boulder City, Nevada, was a sell-out, and this next one in Jamestown is expected to be as well. Lucie will also headline "Lucie Arnaz in Concert: A Daughter's Ttribute," a special musical evening in which she salutes her father.
Ms. Graham will join me in celebrating her famous sister, Vivian Vance, in a Saturday morning presentation that combines film clips, rare family photos, and fond remembrances of the lady that made Ethel Mertz the world's favorite landlady. Ms. Graham will also be special guest on a Treasure Chest Boat Cruise.
David Stollery and Sammy Ogg will be this year's "Lucy Legend" guests, and share memories of appearing with Lucy and Desi. Dann Cahn will host a special screening of "Lucy Takes a Cruise to Havana," and likewise share memories of how that very special 75-minute Lucy-Desi show got made some 50 years ago -- in May/June, 1957.

Lucille Ball to Be Saluted on "TV Land Awards"
As mentioned here a few weeks ago, Lucille Ball will be the subject of an official salute on this year's "TV Land Awards," airing April 22. Both Lucie Arnaz and Desi Jr. are expected to participate, along with many other surprise guests. Please check the TV Land cable listings in your area for exact time and channel.
"Yours, Mine & Ours" to be Screened in Los Angeles Area
"Yours, Mine & Ours," considered by many to be one of Lucille Ball's best motion pictures, will be screened Wednesday, April 25, at 7:30PM at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, California. The screening is part of a special 90th birthday celebration for writer-director Mel Shavelson, who will participate in a discussion following the screening.
This very special evening is being presented by American Cinematheque. For more information, visit that organization's web site at:
