Still in Love with Lucy

Dear Fellow Lucyfans:
Dann "Returns" to Havana
For the past few years, Dann Cahn, the original film editor on I Love Lucy -- and later a director of various films and television programs -- has been writing his memoirs... No, he has not put them in a book. Rather, he's been writing articles for trade journals and magazines -- and making them available to the public as self-published booklets.
In celebration of the approaching 50th anniversary of "Lucy Takes a Cruise to Havana," the first of the "Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show" specials, Dann has dusted off "The Cuban Caper," an article he wrote a couple of years ago -- and is making it available again with a new 50th Anniversary color cover. In the article, Dann tells of his adventures directing location shooting for the special down in Havana... Included are photos and informal snapshots from Dann's personal collection.
Dann will be selling copies of the booklet at the Lucy-Desi Festival in Jamestown, NY, over Memorial Day -- but also wants to make them available to readers of this web site. The spiral-bound booklets are priced at $12 each (including postage and handling), and can be purchased from Dann directly.

Jamestown Unveils Plans for May Festival
Ric Wyman, Executive Director of the Lucy-Desi Center in Jamestown, New York, has announced plans for this year's "Lucy-Desi Days" celebration, to be held May 25-27 (Memorial Day Weekend).
Among the celebrities scheduled to appear are Lucie Arnaz (appearing in two events), Vivian Vance's sister Lou Ann Graham (also appearing in two events), Lucille Ball's sister Cleo Smith, former child-actors David Stollery and Sammy Ogg (who played the Hudson Twins in the "Amateur Hour" segment of I Love Lucy, and film editor Dann Cahn.
Lucie is scheduled to host another of the "Legends of Laughter" seminars, in which a panel -- and the audience -- discuss the importance of laughter in our lives. A similar seminar held last month in Boulder City, Nevada, was a sell-out, and this next one in Jamestown is expected to be as well. Lucie will also headline "Lucie Arnaz in Concert: A Daughter's Ttribute," a special musical evening in which she salutes her father.
Ms. Graham will join me in celebrating her famous sister, Vivian Vance, in a Saturday morning presentation that combines film clips, rare family photos, and fond remembrances of the lady that made Ethel Mertz the world's favorite landlady. Ms. Graham will also be special guest on a Treasure Chest Boat Cruise.
David Stollery and Sammy Ogg will be this year's "Lucy Legend" guests, and share memories of appearing with Lucy and Desi. Dann Cahn will host a special screening of "Lucy Takes a Cruise to Havana," and likewise share memories of how that very special 75-minute Lucy-Desi show got made some 50 years ago -- in May/June, 1957.
