Still in Love with Lucy

Dear Fellow Lucy Fans,

Christmas is Coming!

Am not sure how it got to be mid-November already, but -- seeing how it has -- thoughts turn to Christmas and the challenge of finding just the right gift for that special Lucyfan in our lives. Here are a few suggestions...

For doll lovers: the new Mattel/Lucy "Paris Gown" doll, as we mentioned a few weeks ago, was indeed delayed in the recent West Coast longshoremen's strike -- but, fear not, it is on its way to your nearest dealer even as we speak... We inquired this morning, and were told that dolls were shipped to various dealers last week, and will be on-sale soon!

For book lovers: while there are no new "totally Lucy" books being released for the holidays, there are a couple of TV-related anthologies that may be of interest...

"TV Guide: 50 Years of Television," by Mark Lasswell, is really "50 years of TV Guide," but who cares? This beautifully illustrated volume is a trip down memory lane, recalling TV's greatest performers and programs. More than 400 TV Guide covers are reproduced... In between there are essays from the magazine and original interviews, all recalling the best of the TV medium... And, naturally, Lucy is represented! The book retails for $50.00.

Also new in the bookstores is "Stay Tuned," by Joe Garner. Included here is both a 180-page book and a DVD, recalling television's most unforgettable moments. Lucy is representd here by the Vitameatavegamin spiel (what else?)... There are also famous moments from The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Fugitive, All in the Family, and many, many more. The book retails for $49.95.

For TV music lovers: TV Guide has just released a new CD containing 50 of television's most beloved themes... and, naturally, I Love Lucy is first. Also presented are the themes to such shows as Dragnet, The Honeymooners, Leave it to Beaver, The Flintstones, Bewitched, Mary Tyler Moore Show, etc., etc. The CD retails for $17.98 -- and is also available in a special boxed set along with 50 TV Guide Cover Cards for $27.98.

If you are in a stationery store...

If you are out shopping for holiday cards, keep your eyes open for a boxed set of 20 "Lucy" note cards from "Graphique de France." There are 5 cards each of 4 designs -- Lucy on the telephone, Lucy selling Vitameatavegamin, Lucy with her mouth full of chocolates, and Lucy as Carmen Miranda. The cardboard box itself is nice enough to keep and use for other things. The set retails for $14.95.

Last but not least, many of those same stationers will carry the new "I Love Lucy" 2003 Calendars. Our personal favorite is a spiral bound Engagement Calendar. It measures about 7x9-inches in size when closed, and includes at least two dozen full-page black-and-white "Lucy" stills, many of which are seldom seen. You may want to buy two of these -- one to use and one to put away! The Engagement Calendars retail for $15.99.

That's all for this Monday... Have a great week everybody!
