Dear Fellow Lucy Fans,

New Lucy DVDs Arrive

It's going to be a good week for collectors of I Love Lucy DVDs -- the newest entries in both the subscription-based Columbia House and the over-the-counter Paramount series will be available.

Normally, the Columbia House videos are released six months prior to the Paramount versions, but because the series experienced unexpected production delays, these are all coming out at once...

The Columbia House disc (photo above, left), technically #6 of that series, includes 6 episodes -- "Lucy Fakes Illness," "Lucy Writes a Play," "Breaking the Lease," "The Ballet," "The Young Fans," and "New Neighbors." As mentioned in an earlier letter, the price of these Columbia House discs has dropped from $24.95 to $19.95.

Paramount is releasing two discs -- discs #5 and 6, which include 4 shows each, and sell for $14.95 each. Disc #5 (photo above, center) includes "Lucy Fakes Illness," "Lucy Writes a Play," "Breaking the Lease," and "The Ballet." Disc #6 (photo above, right) includes "Young Fans," "New Neighbors," "Fred & Ethel Fight" and "The Mustache."

So -- at least until the next disc comes out, the Paramount collectors will have two shows not yet released by Columbia House!

TV Guide Celebrates 50 Years!

TV Guide magazine officially turns 50 years old with next week's issue (that for April 5-11, 2003)... But don't expect a special cover or retrospectives. The publication has been grinding out those periodically over the past few months -- and has even released a hardcover coffee-table book featuring some of the great covers, stories about TV's biggest stars, etc., etc.

The Anniversary Issue, then, is business as usual... The new editor-in-chief, Michael LaFavore, however, does supply a "Letter from the Editor," which is illustrated by a shot of the magazine's famous first I Love Lucy cover (for April 3-9, 1953) and a photo of Desi Jr. today. Walter Annenberg, the original publisher of TV Guide, considered Lucy to be his good-luck piece -- and it is nice to see the current management has not forgotten.

Until next time....
