Dear Fellow Lucy Fans,
OUR LUCY MAIL BAG
Lucy Movie Stirs Interest
![]()
Many thanks for all the e-mails regarding CBS's upcoming TV-movie biography, "Lucy," scheduled to air Sunday, May 4, 8-11PM (Eastern time). Many fans are reacting (both positively and negatively) to the promos now being shown on the network... Many feel that actress Rachel York (photo, left) does not look enough like Lucy, while others are afraid the film will concentrate solely on the redhead's I Love Lucy years, and not show enough of her early and later years.
First of all, I cannot comment because I have not yet seen the movie and do not know how much time is devoted to what. Madeline Zima (of The Nanny) will play Lucy as a teenager -- so the film will not deal with I Love Lucy exclusively. Certainly a good portion of the movie will have to focus on the Lucy years -- the TV show is Lucy (and Desi's) greatest achievement. We will just have to wait and see how balanced the film actually is.
In the meantime, here are a couple of pictures of Miss York recreating some I Love Lucy moments:

Lucy: Bears All
Classic Collecticritters has announced that two more Lucy-themed toy bears are in the works, one saluting the 50th Anniversary of Little Ricky, and one reminiscent of Lucy in her Hawaiian outfit in "Ricky's Hawaiian Vacation" (episode #88). Both bears are "limited editions," with only 2000 of each scheduled to be made. Both will be released in late May. Here are some photos:

Lucy: Fan Art
The artwork created by Lucy fans has always astounded me, be it a pencil sketch, a full-color rendering -- or even an electronic "animation." Patrick Ziegler, of Classictvshop.com recently shared with me the art created by a fan named "Beth." Here's a sample:
