Dear Fellow Lucyfans,
"The Lucy Show" Arrives on DVD July 21
CBS Home Entertainment has announced that it will release Season One of The Lucy Show on DVD July 21, 2009. Included in the four-disc set will be all 30 of the half-hour episodes presented on CBS back in 1962-63.
The series, Lucy's first after the long-running I Love Lucy, reunited her with Vivian Vance. Desi Arnaz served as Executive Producer of the first 15 episodes, and longtime Lucy writers Bob Carroll Jr., Madelyn Martin (now Davis), Bob Weiskopf and Bob Schiller wrote the scripts.
Dick Martin co-starred in various episodes as Lucy and Viv's next-door neighbor, and Charles Lane appeared as Lucy's tightwad banker. Candy Moore and Jimmy Garrett portrayed Lucy's two children, and Ralph Hart played Viv's young son. The two families shared a home in suburban Danfield, New York.
CBS appears to be pulling out all the stops on this long-awaited release. Included on the discs are special interviews with Lucie Arnaz and series regular Jimmy Garrett, plus an assortment of special "bonus" features.
Here is a little video that CBS Home Entertainment authorized last week:
We will have more information about The Lucy Show on DVD as we get closer to the July 21 release.

Dann Cahn Memoirs...
![]()
![]()
Dann Cahn, the original film editor on I Love Lucy -- and later a director of various films and television programs -- has completed the fourth (and final) installment of his "Lucy" memoirs, "The Best of Times." Dann will be selling copies at the upcoming Lucy-Desi Days festival in Jamestown, New York (see below), but also wants to make them available to readers of this web site.
As our regular readers know, Dann has been writing his memoirs in the form of "articles" for the past several years. He started writing them in the early 1990s as stories for "Cinema Editor," the official publication of American Cinema Editors, Inc. (an honorary professional society). When Lucy fans discovered them, Dann revised and expanded the articles, and illustrated them with photos from his personal collection. Each has been published in a self-contained booklet.
The new installment is called "The Best of Times," and chronicles Dann's experiences at Desilu (1951-1959), when the company went from being a "one show operation" to the busiest studio in Hollywood.
The spiral-bound booklets are priced at $17 each ($15, plus $2 postage and handling), and can be purchased from Dann directly.
